(논문요약)[국문초록] 사회구조가 다변화되고 과학기술이 진보함에 따라 시민혁명 이전의 계급사회에서 소수의 귀족 중심이었던 예술활동은 계급사회가 붕괴된 이후 다양한 지식과 사고 방식과 행동 양식을 가진 다수의 사람들을 만족시킬 수 있는 예술활동으로 보편화되었다. 예술은 건축, 조각, 회화등의 시각적 조형예술과 음악, 시(詩)등의 청각적 리듬예술, 또 시각적 움직임과 청각적 리듬이 결합되어 탄생한 무용으로 대별될 수 있다. 이러한 예술을 총체적으로 접목시킨 공연예술을 연극이라 하며, 이에 진보된 과학기술이 부가되어 다양한 정서적 감흥을 불러일으키는 예술이 영화이다. 영화에서의 의상의 효과는 의상을 상징적 매개체로 사용하여 인물의 개인적 특성과 등장인물간의 상호관계를 의미하는 내재적 효과와, 영화의 주제와 배경, 극의 줄거리를 전달하는 외재적 효과로 나눌 수 있다. 그러나 이러한 내재적, 외재적 효과는 단순히 한 사실만을 관객에게 전달하기 보다는 대부분의 경우에 있어서 양면가치의 성격을 갖는 것으로 설명될 수 있다. 본 논문의 연구 목적은 영화에 나타난 의상의 표현성을 연구하는 것으로 밀로스 포먼(Milos Forman) 감독의‘아마데우스(Amadeus)’를 사례로 선정하여 등장 인물의 성격이 영화의상을 통해서 어떻게 표현되었는지 시대적 고증을 통하여 살펴보고, 의상의 내재적 효과와 외재적 효과의 표현성에 대해 상징의 의미를 규명하여 의상이 영화에서 어떤 성격을 갖는지 고찰하는 것이다. ‘아마데우스’는 흥행성과 작품의 예술적 완성도가 높았으며, 실존인물을 소재로 한 영화로 시대 고증이 강조되어 시각적요소로서 의상이 부각되었으며, 인간의 내면적 갈등을 소재로 한 영화로 추상적인 주제를 의상으로서 표현하여 시각적 효과를 극대화 시켰다고 사료된다.‘아마데우스’에 나타난 의상의 표현적 특징은 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. 첫째,‘아마데우스’의상의 역사적 고증은 그 시대적 배경을 18세기 후반, 유럽 로코코 시대로 두고, 빈의 궁정생활을 위주로 귀족 복식을 표현하고 있다. 남성 복식은 복식사 측면에서 정확한 고증으로 재현되며, 여성 복식은 복식사적 자료가 미비한 실내복을 제외한 외출복에 있어서는 고증에 충실하였다. 또한 18세기 후반의 오페라 배우의 극중의상을 통해 당시 그들이 패션선도자의 위치를 차지하고 있었음을 알 수 있다. 둘째,‘아마데우스’의상은 인물의 개인적 특성을 내재적 효과로 표현하였다. 분석 결과 살리에리 의상의 주된 효과는 무채색과 보수적인 디자인을 사용하여 그의 사악하고 음흉하며 소극적인 성격을 표현하였고, 모짜르트의 화려한 의상은 사치스럽고 낭비가 심하며, 변덕스러운 성격을 표출하는 동시에 귀족적인 지위를 표현하고 있다. 레오폴드는 권위적이고 위압적인 의상을 통하여 모차르트의 무의식속에 영원히 존재하며, 그것이 살리에리의 음모에 빠지게 될 것이라는 복선을 상징적으로 나타내고 있다. 콘스탄체의 의상은 주로 밝은 색상에 화려한 드레스를 사용하여 사랑스럽고 귀여운 이미지의 단순한 성격을 표현하였다. 셋째,‘아마데우스’의상의 외재적 효과를 살펴보면, 영화의 첫장면에서 길이가 긴 의상은 영화의 전체적인 어두운 주제를 암시하며, 검은 가면과 검은색 외투를 착용한 인물의 반복적 등장으로 극의 전반적인 흐름을 유도하고 있다. 모차르트의 의상의 변화는 극중 후반부에 이르러 당시 상류사회에서 외출복으로 허용되지 않는 실내복 차림으로 거리를 방황하는 모습으로 그의 정신적, 육체적 타락을 표현하고 있다. 이와 같이 영화‘아마데우스’에서는 다채로운 색상과 화려한 디자인의 의상으로 뛰어난 시각적 영상미를 창출하는 동시에 정확한 시대 고증으로 극의 사실적 분위기를 고양시키고 의상마다 인물의 특징과 변화를 인식하도록 하여 의상이 영화의 완성도를 높이는데 크게 기여하였다. ‘아마데우스’의상의 표현성과 상징적 의미는 영화의 시대적, 공간적 배경과 등장인물의 특징을 표현함은 물론 극의 흐름을 유도하는 복선의 기능을 갖고 있다는 점에서 그 가치가 높게 평가된다. (영문초록)[영문초록] As the progress of social structure and technology artistic activity which were dominated by few nobles in caste society before the Civil Revolution became popular to content a number of people who have various knowledge, the way of thinking and life after collapse of caste society. Art's coassified by visual modeling like architecture, caving, painting, auditory art like music, poem and dance combined visual acting with auditory art. This generally modified public performance is called a drama. Art with technology added, intriguing carious emotional inspiration is MOVIE. Movie costume plays two parts as a symbolic intermediator. One part is intrinsical effects meaning mutual relation between individuality and characters. The other part is extrinsical effects describing movie's theme background and plot. But this intrinsical and extrinsical effects have ambivalence than just passing a simple message to the audience. The purpose of this thesis is study of movie costume expression. I pointed out 'AMADEUS' directed by Milos Forman in order to investgate how the character's personalities are described with movie costume through historical research and what part costume does in the movie clarifying symbolic meaning of costume's intrinsical and extrinsical effects expression. Amadeus made a great success and praised as a prominent art performance. Based on real charater, historical research made costume visally distinguished, and abstract subject about human internal troubles was discribed by costume. And this really maximize the visual effects. It's unique style of costume as follows: Firstly, It's historical research shows noble's costume focusing on royal life in Wien in the later 18th century Europe. Men's costumes were quite well reappeared but costumes of woomen were just well investigated except house dress. Besides we could figure out opera actors're fashion leader through drama costume of Rococo. Secondly, Amadeus costumes express individuality with intrinsical effects. According to analysis Salieri's costume mainly using conservative designed achromatic colors expressed his wicked and reserved character and Mozart's luxury costume expressed his lavish and moody character and his noble position as well. Leopold tells an underplot symbolically that his costume stay for good in Mozart's mind and that leads Salieri's conspiracy. Finally Konstanze's showed lovely image of simple character with light color and fancy dress. Thirdly, Considering Amadeus costume's extrinsical effects. Long and bulky costume imply tragic theme generally in first scene, and it leads the flow of drama showing up the cast in black mask and coat. The charge of Mozart's costume in the latter half of the drama shows his psychological and physical corruption as wandering on the streets in indoor costume which is not allowed outdoor. As the above Amadeus created prominent visual image with colorful and fancy design as well as inspired realistic mood with historical research. It also contributed a lot on making costume playa role on this movie. Amadeus costume's expression and symbolic meaning are highly praised in terms of an underplot that leads the flow of drama as well as the expression of historical and spatial backgrounds and individuality.
