(논문요약)[목적] 본 논문의 연구 목적은 Spike Lee감독의 영화 <똑바로 살아라/Do the Right Thing>에 내재되어 있는 각 민족들의 이미지를 체계적으로 분석하는데 있으며, 분석방법으로는 기호학적 방법을 적용시켜보고자 한다. (영문초록)[영문초록] The purpose of this study was to explore the images about the minority reflected in American films. The case selected for this study is "Do the Right Thing", a film story about racial cocflicts between , which include, Italian, Afro-American and Korean-American, Anglo- American etc. in America. The research question of this stdy is ; What are the images about each race in this film? This study analyzed images of ethnicity using semiotics -Fiske's analysis of meaning process and Greimas's model actantiel- focusing on the class position of each race, personal orientation by the perspectives of other races, and the types of the relationship between races. In the analysis of meaning process, this study analyzed the images based on words and behaviors of the persons in the film, color and camera angles. In the model actantiel, this study tried to discover meanings of images through the types of racial relationships. Results of the analysis are that ; The images of each race are formed by conflictual relationships between them. Afro-Americans are described as the visctimes by ohters and others as exploiting and discriminating Afro-Americn. Therefore, it is concluded "Do the Right Thing" creates the images of each race according to the Afro-Americans' perspectives dominated by ideology of racism.
