(논문요약)[목적]본 연구는 기존의 방송환경에 새로 진입한 케이블TV 프로그램의 내용이 어떻게 규제되고 있는가를 파악하고자 한다. (영문초록)[영문초록]The purpose of this study is to understand how the obscene and violent contents of cable television movies in Korea are regulated. Instead of analysing movies contents, this study examined the review results of cable television movies practiced by the Korean Cable Communications Commission(KCC) in terms of five variables(movie rating, production year, nationality, genre, and channel[basic vs premium]). And it suggests a future direction of cable television content regulation based upon the results. The research results showed that four out of five variables except the channel variable had significant influence on the amount of time and number of scenes to be deleted. And the study suggests that the current institutional system based upon the ethical and normative logic of cable television content regulation should be transformed into a social regulation system, which weeds out socially unacceptable programs, by offering more useful and valuable program information to the audience to aid its better and reasonable decision-making. This suggestion is absed upon the understanding of cable television as a narrowcasting medium which provides programs expected and needed by the active audience with subscription fee.
