(영문초록)[영문초록]Genre theory and Auteurisme are the two main posts of cinema studies. If Auteurisme has it's use as a private art, genre theory could be an effective study which shows the whole process of producing and consuming the text of films. Genre has generally taken part in classifying and analyzing various works through a specific frame. But in this matter genre theory shows a weakness that it views the genre itself as a closed form. Genre itself has a dynamic character, and it is always transforming according to the social/cultural surrounding the author belongs to. That is why the genres change according to time and place. The early Hollywood genres like Western and Film noir spreaded throughout the world with a stable industrial state. The genre films of Hollywood became the object of adoration of films made in other countries. But the genre films which went through the process of acceptance begins to develop into a new genre. After the 1960's, genres such as Road movies begin to enter the stage. Of course, these new ones are not totally independent of the 'old' Westerns and Film Noir. Wim Wenders was a member of the New German Cinema, a movement which struggled to revive the German film industry which was desolated after the World War Ⅱ and the flourish of Hollywood films. But this movement itself did not have a united aesthestic or ideological basis. The various colors of the members weakened the character of the movement itself. On the other hand, authors like Wim Wenders and Rainer Werner Fassbinder accept the Hollywood genres and colors it with their own methods. The Road movies of Wenders are a good example. Wenders changes the forms of John Ford's Western and Nicholas Ray's film noir and completes his own Road movies. But the story he shows in his movies sets-up the relation of very different characters and ongoing spaces. As Bildungsromans and Hollywood genres ,the origin of road movies, show how its characters become a brand new person through the interaction of space, the people in Wenders' films clash with space and are isolated. The characters are locked and they do not communicate. The space is not saturated- it is ubiquitous semantically. That is because Wenders considers the story as a totally different thing. He refuses the involved story. So the character without a planned destination does not change, and instead of an outward investigation, he comes to an inward mediation. The stories told through the disharmony of characters and space shows the political situation of division and the cultural situation under America's great influence. And the eye of the camera expresses Wenders' desire to find his identity.
