(논문요약)[국문추록] '실미도'는 섬 이름이다. 남북한의 대립이 첨예하던 1968년에 결성된 684 특수 부대는 인천 무위도 인근의 무인도였던 실미도에서 3년간 훈련을 받았다. 군 출신이 아닌 사형수, 재소자 31명으로 구성된 이 부대의 결성 목적은 김일성 암살이었다. 이들을 구성한 것은 당시 무소불위의 권력을 행사하던 중앙 정보부였다. 이들은 1968년 가을, 평양 침투를 명령 받고 출정했으나 뚜렷한 이유 없이 명령이 철회되어 실미도로 돌아왔다. 그리고 3년의 세월 동안 그들은 방치되었다. 그 사이 중앙정보부장이 교체되었고, 남북한의 관계는 우호적으로 변화되었다. 역사의 흐름이 더 이상 그들을 필요로 하지 않게 되자 국가는 그들을 말살시키고자 했다. 훈련 과정에서 7명이 사망, 남은 24명은 1971년, 폭동을 일으켜 그들을 훈련시키던 공군 소속 군인들을 사살하고 섬을 탈출했다. 그러나 그들의 목적은 '탈출'이 아니라 자신들의 존재를 세상에 알리는 것이었다. 그들은 민간 버스를 탈취, '청와대'로 향하다가 서울 대방동에서 공군의 저지를 받자 버스에 타고 있던 승객들을 하차시킨 후 수류탄을 터뜨려 자폭했다. 이 과정에서 살아남은 4명의 생존자는 간단한 재판을 거쳐 모두 사형 당했다. 실미도 사태는 우리 현대사에 있어 가장 불행한 사건이었으나 단순한 역사적 사건의 재조명을 넘어서 근원적인 질문을 던지는 작품으로 승화시키기 위해 이 시나리오를 쓰게 되었다. 인간은 자신의 존재를 증명하지 못할 때, 정체성의 답을 찾지 못할 때 가장 깊은 혼란에 빠지며 이것을 해결하기 위해 목숨도 건다는 것이 이 작품의 본질적 주제이다. 이와 같은 주제는 오늘을 살아가는 우리에게도 깊은 울림이 되리라 생각한다. (영문초록)[영문초록] 'Silmido' is the name of an island. The special Unit 684, established in 1968, when the conflict was highly tensed between South and North Korea, received the training in Silmido, an uninhabited island near to Muwido of Inchon. The purpose of the organization of this Unit, consisted with 31persons, i.e. criminals under sentence of death (not discharged soldiers)and prisoners, was the assassination of 'Kim, Il-Sung'. It was organized by ''KCIA", who employed the absolute force at that time. In the autumn of 1968, they were ordered to go to Pyongyang but it was cancelled suddenly without special reason and they were compelled to return to Silmido. Since then, they were neglected for 3 years. In the meantime, the chief of KCIA was changed, and the relationship between South and North Korea friendly improved. They became no more to be wanted by the nation due to the flow of the history, and the nation tried to get rid of them. During the severe training, 7 persons died, and the rest 24 persons raised riot in 1971, and escaped from the island after they shot the airmen of the Air Force to death, who trained them there. However, their purpose was not the escape but to let their existence know to the world. They robbed a civil bus and headed for the 'Blue House, Presidential Residence', but their direction was hindered by the Air Force in Tebang-dong in Seoul. They got the passengers off, who were in the bus, and exploded grenade which resulted in the suicidal bombing. These all four survivors from the accident, went to the scaffold through a summary trial. The Silmido affair was one of the most misery ones, and this scenario was written to sublimate this affair to the work to which basic questions are thrown, over the level of the review about a simple historical affair. The essential thema of this thesis is that so-called a human being fall into the deepest confusion, when they cannot certify their existence, or when they cannot identify themselves, and they try to settle this at the risk of their lives. And this kind of thema is thought to become a deep resonance to us, who are running their contemporary lives.
