(논문요약)[목적] 본 논문에서는 우선 영화 비디오의 학습 자료로서의 유용성에 대해 논하고 학습도구로 수업시간에 활용하는 하나의 방법으로서 듣기에 중점을 둔 수업모형을 제시하고자 한다. 또한 이 모형에서 학습자의 흥미와 동기를 유발하여 재미있는 학습 활동을 유도하고, 발전적인 영어 교수의 방법과 방향을 제시함과 동시에 새로운 교육환경의 변화에 발맞추어 학습자 중심의 수업을 유도할 수 있는 방안을 연구하고자 한다. (영문초록)[영문초록] The purpose of this study is to develop teaching methods through movies to improve English listening comprehension for Korean EFL learners. Assuming that visual and auditory elements are complementary, previous researches have stressed visual elements in hearing and complete comprehension can be acquired when conversation participants' gestures, facial expressions, and the discourse situations are available. To achieve this purpose, we have organized an experiment that we investigate how movies can be used to improve listening skills for adult learners. The lesson starts from pre-listening tasks, in which students watch the movie a few minutes and learn some key words. And in during-listening tasks, they listen to the dialogue in the movie without watching it. In this stage, the dictation activities which are believed to be one of the most effective methods for developing listening skills of sound patterns and linguistic information related to grammar are needs. Finally at the post-listening stage, some activities such as role-plays and quizes are introduced. As the last step of this study, post-tests were progressed by a TOEIC type tests. The results of this study are as follows. 1. Students showed remarkable improvement of their listening comprehension through the movie 2. Students gained a lot of confidence and interest on English when they use the movie method. They wanted to keep studying English through movies even after this study is finished. They also thought they could listen to English well as the survey showed. In conclusion, the use of movies in learning and teaching English is definitely effective and appropriate. Therefore, it is suggested that teachers encourage students using movies in their learning to accomplish successful listening ability as well as interest and confidence.
