(논문요약)[영문초록] Historical dramas and films in the 2000s have been diversified in connection with popular culture. In addition, historical costumes that enhance the ability of these dramas and films not only play the role of the medium expressing a time in the past but also cross between traditional inheritance and modern fusion by communicating with the general public at the same time. Focusing on the value of the historical costume, which is particularly important in historical dramas and films and has strongly impacted fashion of the past and today, this study generally analyzed historical costumes in the 2000s in terms of its characteristics, types, aesthetic aspects, and so forth. Based on the analysis, the study observed the transition of the change and the traditional characteristics appearing in historical costume today as well as analyzed the changing factors in connection with popular culture. Accordingly, this study at first sought to understand how historical dramas and films and historical costumes communicate with the general public through the popular culture and what type of periodical characteristics and trends they portray. On the basis of this understanding, the study investigated the present status and value as popular culture as well as the factor of the diversification, and then analyzed type and characteristics of historical costumes. As the next step, the study analyzed Korean beauty appearing in historical costumes and specified the connection between historical costumes in the 2000s and popular culture after the analytical process of the continuity of traditional beauty’s characteristics and the changed or created features. For the analysis, the study approached the characteristics of popular culture in the 2000s from sociocultural, economical, and emotional perspectives and utilized such resources to examine 47 historical TV dramas and 21 historical films produced in the 2000s through web sites, articles, promotional pictures, and the like.
