(논문요약)[국문초록]이 논문의 목적은 독립 장편영화 제작으로 제작된 <Finding Joy>를 독자에게 소개하기 위해서이다. 이 영화는 아일랜드계 Neil Dowling이 감독했고, 2009년 베를린과 서울에서 여름과 가을에 촬영했다. 촬영을 시작할 때는 자체 제작비로 충당하였으며 이후 편집 단계에서 추가되는 몇 개의 장면들이 포함됐고, 영화 제작 진행 중에 Galway Film Fleadh(아일랜드 최고의 영화축제)에서 상영됐다. 이 후 2011년에 영화위원회가 작품 완료 자금으로 15,000 유로를 후원해 주었다. 이 자금을 바탕으로 감독은 프로듀서와 연결 되었으며 전문 편집자를 고용해 새로운 편집작업으로의 장이 열리게 되었다. 감독은 더 큰 영화축제의 국제 프리미어 겨냥을 목적으로 진행을 잠시 중지 했다. 다음 스크리닝은 Dublin International Film Festival에서 2012년 2월, 3월에 할예정이다. 카메라감독의 관점에서 쓰여진 이 논문은 사전 제작에서, 영화 제작 및 후반 작업 기간의 기술적 측면과 공동 제작자의 관점에 대한 통찰력을 제공한다. 제작자와 카메라 감독의 역할을 맡았던 우리는 작업 내내 아주 가깝고 격렬했다. 우리는 제작의 한계, 시간과 비용의 압박 등 불비한 여건 하에서도 미학적이며 최고의 기술적 선택을 하기위해 노력했다. 제작 기간 동안 겪었던 힘들고 성공적인 사례들은 본문에 자세히 설명되어 있다. 이 연구의 가장 흥미로운 요소는 두 개의 다른 카메라 시스템으로 제작된 것을 바탕으로 한다는 것이다. 이 영화의 몸체는 Letus 35mm 어댑터와 연결한 Sony의 EX-1으로촬영 하였으며 픽업 샷은 Canon의 5D MK II로 했다. Letus와 5D MK II는 둘 다 독립 영화 제작의 세계에서는 큰 영향을 미치는 장비들임에 분명하다. 하지만 길지 않은 시간 속에 독립 영화 제작자들에 사이에서 Letus의 자리를 5D MK II가 선택 되는 비율이 넘어서고 있다. 논문 전반에 걸쳐 두 장비들 사이의 근본적인 장단 비교가 보이며, 현재 진행되고 있는 개발 방향을 설명해 줄 수 있으며 이는 독립 디지털 영화 제작장비군 변화에 중요한 역사적인 순간인 것이다. (영문초록)[영문초록]The purpose of this thesis is to introduce the reader to an independent feature film production called <Finding Joy>. The film, directed by Irish director Neil Dowling, was mainly shot in summer and autumn 2009 in Berlin and Seoul. The project was initially self-financed but later after a long post-production phase that included several additional shoots the film screened as a work in progress at the Galway Film Fleadh (Ireland’s leading film festival), after which the film received a completion funding of 15,000 Euros by the Irish Film Board in 2011. This enabled the director to connect a producer and hire a professional editor to was able to inject new life into film with a new edit. The director has held the film back with the aim of targeting a large festival for it’s international premiere. The next confirmed screening will take place at the Dublin International Film Festival in February/March 2012. Written from a cinematographer’s viewpoint, this thesis gives an insight into the technical and visual aspects throughout pre-production, production and post-production of the film. Throughout a very close and intense working relationship between the director and myself in the role of the cinematographer and co-producer of the film, we tried to come up with the best possible aesthetic and technical choices despite the production’s limitations, lack of time and money. Both difficult and successful situations throughout the production ar e explained in detail in this text. A very interesting factor which accompanies this research is based on the production being shot with two different camera systems. While the main body of the film has been shot with Sony’s PMW EX-1 in connection with a Letus 35mm adapter, pickup shots have been shot with the Canon 5D MK II. Both the Letus and the 5D MK II have been game-changers in the world of independent film production. But it did not take long before the Letus was overtaken by the 5D MK II as the tool of choice for many indie film makers. An underlying comparison between the two tools throughout the thesis, should explain this current development which is a key historical moment in the advance of independent digital film.
