(논문요약)[국문초록]1970~1980년대 블록버스터 흥행작들의 오리지널 스코어(Original Score)는 대규모 오케스트라를 활용하여 크고 웅장한 사운드를 연출하였는데, 그 선두에는 존 윌리엄스(John Williams)가 있었다. 그는 창의적인 오리지널 스코어를 활용하여 액션 장면에서 탁월한 음악적 연출을 보여주었다. 그 대표적인 예로 1981년에 제작된 액션 어드벤처 영화 「레이더스(Raiders of the Lost Ark)」를 꼽을 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 영화 「레이더스」의 액션 장면을 중심으로 한 존 윌리엄스의 오리지널 스코어를 분석하였다. 액션 장면의 주요 요소인 추격, 싸움, 폭발과 음악과의 연관성을 중심으로 각각의 액션 요소에 따라 어떠한 음악 기법들이 사용되었는지에 주목하여 연구를 진행하였다. 먼저, 「레이더스」에서 위에 언급된 액션 요소를 포함한 대표적인 세 가지 액션 장면을 선택하여, 가상의 큐시트를 제작하였다. 장면의 기승전결에 따른 감정의 고조와 액션 요소들을 중심으로 오리지널 스코어의 음악적 기법을 분석 및 도출하였다. 그 결과 선율, 화성, 리듬, 악기편성, 다이내믹 등의 음악적 요소들에서 공통적으로 불규칙성에 기반을 둔 긴장감 유발이나 감정의 고조를 표현하는 기법들이 나타났다. 그리고 도출된 음악 기법들은 최근의 블록버스터 영화인 「솔트(Salt)」와 「본 얼티메이텀(The Bourne Ultimatum)」의 분석을 통해, 현재에도 여전히 사용되고 있음을 확인하였다. 이는 음악적 테크놀로지의 비약적인 발전에도 불구하고, 존 윌리엄스의 음악 기법이 현재에도 여전히 중요하게 활용되고 있음을 시사한다. (영문초록)[영문초록]In 1970s and 80s, the Original Score of box-office blockbusters directed the big and magnificent sound through making use of a large-scale orchestra, and John Williams was in the lead. He showed a superior musical direction by applying the creative Original Score in action scenes. The prominent example was the Raiders of the Lost Ark, an action and adventure movie, made in 1981. This thesis analyzed the Original Score of John Williams centering around the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Besides, this thesis pursued the study by taking notice of what musical techniques was used along each action factor, laying stress on the connection between the pursuit, fight, and explosion - the main factors of an action scene - and music. First, this study selected the three representative action scenes including the above mentioned action factors and manufactured the imaginary Cue Sheet. The musical techniques of the Original Score was analyzed and drawn the conclusion centering around the uprush of emotion along the four steps in composition of the scene and action factors. As a result, techniques which express the cause of tension and the uprush of emotion based on the aperiodicity appeared in the musical factors like the Melody, Rhythm, Orchestration, Dynamic in common. Also, the fact that the elicited musical techniques still are in use was confirmed through the analysis of the Salt and the Bourne Ultimatum, the latest Blockbuster movies. This suggests that the musical techniques of John Williams are still being used until by now in spite of saltatory growth of the musical techniques. The result of this thesis has enough value at this time when a production of blockbuster movies is actively made. The fact that the Original Score plays a very important role in an action scene, the best part of the blockbuster, was found by this study.
