(논문요약)[국문초록] 본 연구의 목적은 부산국제영화제에 대한 신문의 보도경향을 분석하고, 보도에 나타난 부산국제영화제와 부산시의 이미지를 살펴보는데 있다. 부산국제영화제는 부산의 자연환경과 영상문화를 결합한 고부가 관광자원의 개발 필요성을 배경으로 하고 있다. 따라서 이 같은 대규모 이벤트는 문화뿐만 아니라 시 전체의 사업을 망라하는 총체적인 성격의 계획이므로 부산의 이미지 제고와 경제활성화에 미치는 영향이 결코 적지 않다. 따라서 이 같은 공익적 가치를 목적으로 하는 부산국제영화제의 신문보도를 분석하여 영화제와 부산의 이미지를 살펴보고 보도방향을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 부산일보와 조선일보의 영화제 관련 기사를 분석하고 있으며, 분석대상 기간은 1996년, 1998년, 2000년, 2002년으로 총 4개년이다. 그리고 이렇게 추출된 기사들은 내용분석 방법에 의해 연구되었다. 부산국제영화제에 대한 신문의 보도경향은 다음과 같다. 먼저, 부산일보와 조선일보의 보도는 비교적 긍정적이었으며, 이는 영화제의 객관적인 평가를 반영하는 것으로 보아도 무방하다. 그러나 관련 기사를 보도함에 있어서 문화의 영역으로 취재를 제한하고 있다는 한계를 드러내고 있다. 또한 영화제 보도 중에 부산의 이미지가 나타나는 기사는 전체기사에 비해 비교적 적었으나, 상당수의 기사가 긍정적인 논조를 드러내고 있음을 알 수 있다. 그러나 긍정적인 논조의 기사가 부정적인 논조의 기사에 비해 양적으로는 우위를 차지하고 있지만, 질적분석 결과에 의하면 부정적인 논조의 기사가 구체적이며 직접적인 반면에 긍정적인 논조의 기사는 피상적인 메시지만을 전달하고 있었다. 그리고 부산일보가 조선일보보다 부산국제영화제에 호의적이었으며, 이는 해당 언론사의 소속 지역에 근거하는 공익적 가치의 반영이라고 여겨진다. 부산국제영화제는 부산의 이미지 제고와 지역경제 활성화라는 가치를 지닌다. 따라서 본 연구는 부산국제영화제를 보도함에 있어 수용자 혹은 독자로 하여금 긍정적인 태도변화를 불러일으킬 수 있도록 신문의 보도방향을 제시하는 데 의의가 있다. (영문초록)[영문초록] The purpose of this study is to analyze how newspapers report about the Pusan International Film Festival(PIFF), which is evaluated as a successful cultural event, and to look into reflective images of Busan city in the articles. PIFF was launched in order to make Busan the Mecca of film industry and to have it renowned for international port city. These contribute to improve pride of Busan citizen. With gifted tourist potentials and culture of film, the Busan city was demanded to develop high valued tourist potentials, which have no pollution problems. Therefore big events just like PIFF makes big influences to image of the city and local economy because it is not only plan for cultural field but also covers whole city plan. Tendency of daily newspapers, which deal with PIFF in articles, is as follows. First of all, articles of national newspapers about PIFF are generally positive as objective evaluations about the festival. However, the articles were limited in a section of culture. Compared with whole articles about PIFF, articles about Busan related to PIFF are relatively little but the most of them are positive. The number of positive articles is relatively more than negative. On the other hand, negative articles have more concrete and direct view and positive articles include only superficial message in aspect of advantage of contents, The Busanilbo, a local paper, had more well-meaning articles about PIFF than Chosunilbo, a national newspaper. It means that local papers pursue public benefit of the city. PIFF has public value of improving image of Busan city and local economy. Therefore, the findings of this study are to suggest the direction of articles to newspapers to make news-readers positive to PIFF.
