(논문요약)[국문초록] 본 연구의 목적은 영화 비디오를 학습에 활용하여 영어의사 소통 능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 방안을 연구하는 것이었다. 영화 비디오의 실제성과 비디오가 제공하는 흥미, 문화와 사회적 배경, 시각적인 효과 등을 바탕으로 영화 비디오의 학습 자료로서의 유용성을 주장하였다. 연구 절차는 어학원의 고등학생 60명을 대상으로 영화의 활용을 통하여 학생들의 영어에 대한 흥미도 뿐만 아니라 영어 기능 영역에서의 변화의 결과를 알아보고자 하였다. 영어에 흥미, 관심, 동기, 학습 경험 등을 개인별 인터뷰와 설문지를 통하여 실시하였고, 영어 기능 영역에서의 변화는 사전, 사후 각가 듣기와 말하기 평가를 하였다. 실험 수업을 위한 준비로서 두 편의 영화 Stuart Little 2 와 While You Were Sleeping을 이용하여 각각의 수업 모형을 학생들의 영어 수준을 고려하여 상황에 맞게 만들어서 수업에 적용시켰으며, 실험 기간은 1주일에 3시간씩 8주 동안 실시하였다. 이 논문의 연구 개요는 다음과 같다. 제 1 장에서는 영화를 활용한 현장 수업 적용에 대한 필요성과 이의 적용을 통하여 기대하는 효과 및 목적을 제시한다. 제 2 장에서는 의사 소통 능력의 개념과 영화를 활용한 영어 의사 소통 능력 향상을 위한 학습 활동에 적용될 수 있는 근거를 포함한 관련성을 설명하며 영어 의사 소통에 있어서 영화의 장점과 영어 교재로서의 영화에 대해 알아본다. 제 3 장에서는 연구 방법에 대한 개요를 소개하고 연구의 실행에 있어 학습 활동에 필요한 교사의 학습 준비 자료와 수업에 활용할 수 있는 수업 모형을 소개한다. 제 4 장에서는 연구를 실시한 결과를 분석한 다음 연구의 가설을 검증하고 영화를 활용한 의사 소통에 있어서 문제점 및 개선 방향을 제시한다. 제 5 장에서는 본 연구의 목적과 결과와의 관련성을 검토하고 그 결과를 토대로 연구자의 견해를 제시한다. (영문초록)[영문초록] Movies are a good tool for teaching English. In fact, using movies for teaching English has many advantages. First, having students watch English language movies increases their interest in language. Second, movies are a link between that culture and its language. Third, movies offer an opportunity for students to see native speakers interacting with each other in real circumstances. Fourth, English movies can also make students enjoy themselves while studying English. The purposes of this study are to develop teaching methods through the use of movies for improving the communicative competence of high school English learners and to find effective teaching methods by applying them to English classrooms. For theses purposes, theoretical backgrounds were discussed for utilizing movies in foreign language education and an experiment was conducted with a group of 60 high school students. The experiment lasted for 8 weeks. In the experiment, I used two movies in the classroom. One was an animated movie called "Stuart Little 2" and the other was a romantic movie called "While You Were Sleeping." To evaluate the students' communicative competence, I gave listening comprehension check ups and speaking tests to both the experimental group and the control group before and after applying the movies as teaching aids in the class. In addition, I had interviews with the students regarding their interest in an English class which uses movies. The first result was that students showed more interest and self-confidence in English. Second, the experimental group showed better results in listening comprehension and speaking tests, compared with the control group. Third, students showed a marked improvement in productivity as well as in receptive skills. Fourth, students' mutual understanding and cooperation were promoted through pair-centered work. The results of this study suggest two things. First, since movies are enjoyed by students they can be a useful teaching tool in class. Also, it is necessary to develop teaching techniques that enhance students' English ability through the movies.
