(논문요약)[국문초록] 영화 예술이 걸음마를 떼던 20세기초, 배우들에게 의상은 바로 연기의 연장이었으며, 무성영화 연기에서 장면에 걸맞는 옷을 고르고 갈아입는 것은 역할을 해석하는 작업 그 자체였다. 또한 영화제작에 전문 디자이너가 고용되기 시작하면서 영화에서 영화의상이 차지하는 비중은 점차 늘어나기 시작하면서 영화 의상은 영화를 표현하는 데 있어서 중요한 부분을 차지하게 되었다. 본 연구의 의의는 영화 시카고에 나타난 의상을 분석하여 1920년대 의상을 연구하는데 있으며, 영화의상에서 동시대 의상을 어떻게 재현하였고 현대 의상과 어떻게 접목시켰는지를 분석하여 영화의상에 있어서의 학문적 자료를 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서는 영화 시카고 의상을 고찰하기 위해서 1920년대의 시대적 배경을 살펴보고 그 시대의 의상을 분석하여 시카고 의상과 비교 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 영화 시카고 의상은 이러한 1920년대 복식에 비해 더 관능적이고 노출이 심한 무대의상을 보여주고 있다. 무회들의 의상은 의상이라 볼 수 없을 만큼 여성들의 중요한 부분만을 가린 의상이 많고 두 여주인공 역시 가슴이 훤히 보이는 V넥에 허벅지가 다 보이도록 컷트 해놓은 원피스를 입고 격렬한 댄스를 선보이며 노래를 부른다. 스커트를 컷트 해놓은 것을 보면 술 모양을 본 따서 만든 것인데 이것은 1920년대에는 나타나지 않은 스타일로 현대의 유행하는 스타일을 가미한 형태이다. 둘째, 1920년대와 영화 시카고의 일상복을 보면 1920년대 스타일은 보이쉬한 스타일로 남성으로 착각할 만큼 활동적인 의상을 입었다. 크로쉐 모자에 진주를 길게 늘어뜨린 악세사리를 착용하였고 네크라인은 다양하게 나타났다. 이에 반해 영화 시카고의 일상복은 대부분 법정과 감옥에서 나타나는데 여성적인 면을 더 강조하였다. 록시의 헤어스타일을 보면 1920년대 헤어스타일이 숏트 컷트 스타일 이 나타났듯이 그녀도 짧은 단발에 웨이브를 넣은 머리스타일을 하고 있지만 1920년대 스타일보다는 긴 헤어스타일을 하고 있다. 셋째, 남성들의 복식은 1900년대부터 지금까지 큰 차이가 없었으므로 지금의 남성 복식이나 1920년대의 복식이나 별 다른 스타일의 변화가 없었다. 본 연구를 하면서 가장 힘들었던 점은 움직이는 화면을 정지시켜서 봐야하는데 그 순간을 포착하기가 어려웠고, 조명이 전체적으로 어둡고 의상의 색상도 어두운 편이어서 의상이 구체적으로 보이지 않는다는 문제점이 있었다. 그렇지만 1920년대의 의상을 자세히 다루었을 뿐만 아니라 더 나아가서 공연의상을 제시하였다는 점과 한정된 계층의 복식의 분석에까지 접근하였다는 점, 그리고 영화의상에서 영화와 의상 연구에 앞으로의 선행자료가 된다는 점에 그 의의를 지니고자 한다. (영문초록)[영문초록] In the early 20C when motion picture arts was taking its first steps, costumes were the extension of acting to actors and choosing and changing into clothes that fit the scenes of silent films was itself the work of analyzing the role. Also, as specialized designers started getting hired for movie production, film costumes came to take a significant portion in expressing films. The significance of this study is in studying the costumes of 1920s by analyzing the costumes appeared in the movie Chicago, and the purpose of the study is on analyzing how the costumes of the period were revived and how they were grafted into modem costumes to present scholastic reference in the aspect of costume history. In this study, the backgrounds of the period of 1920s was looked into in order to study the costumes in the movie and the costume of the period was analyzed for comparison analysis with those in Chicago. Chicago, First, the stage costumes in Chicago are more sensual and skimpier than the costumes of 1920s. The stage costume costumes barely cover the private parts of women, which is hardly thought to be a stage costume, and the two female heroines wear dresses with low cut V necks that exposes the cleavage and short skirt that shows off most of their thighs while they are singing and dancing fiercely. The skirt is cut in the shape of a fringe that did not appear in the 1920s and this is the style that is flavored with the one that is in trend in the modem era. Second, looking at the everyday clothes of 1920s and Chicago, they are in boyish style, that is so dynamic that it makes one mistaken f a - a male. They wore crochet hats and pearl accessories that hung low and necklines appear to be various. In contrast to this, the everyday clothes in Chicago appear mostly in the court and prison scene and they emphasize more of the feminine side. When looking at Rows hairstyle, she is showing short cut bob with wave as short cut style appeared in 1920s but it is longer than that of the 1920s. Third, since mens costumes did not show much difference since 1900 till now, there was not much difference in style between the current mens costume and that of the 1920s. The most difficult part in this study was that it required to stop the moving picture to have a look at them, which was difficult to catch the right timing an costumes were not scene clearly as the lighting was dim overall and the colors of the costumes were comparatively dark. However, I would like to sustain the significance of this study for the fact that stage costumes that were not covered in detail in 1920s costume, approached to the analysis of costumes for a limited class and that this study will be the preceding reference for the studies on the costumes of 1920s that will come in the future.
