Description
하지만 2000년대 이후 급격히 늘어나고 있는 1인칭 에세이스트들의 영화에 대한 욕망은 에세이영화 (영문초록)[영문초록] As the title implies, the essay film is a category of movies that closely related to essay, a genre of literature. The essay film shares characteristics with the essay genre of literature, but it is a quasi-genre that occupies a unique position of comprising the documentary film and the avant-garde film in the history of conventional movies. In order to examine the essay film, it is necessary to examine the essay genre of literature that shares the same aesthetic characteristics with the essay film. What on earth is essay? What is its difference from miscellaneous writings that are openly used in Asian countries, including Korea? Oriental miscellaneous writings that have the meaning of 'the writings being written off the top of one's head' and Occidental essay that has started from Montaigne are similar in their time of appearance, but they are different in usage for the present. Essay is domestically used as a comprehensive genre that comprises all other genres that cannot be classified into hobby writings, practical writings, self-developmental writings and fictitious writings. On the other hand, miscellaneous writings mean literary works of such existing writers as Pi Chen-deuk, Buddhist monk Beopjeong and Park Wan-seo and life essay of which literary hue is thick. The term of essay used in this study has the meaning of Occidental essay that comprises scientific essay, philosophical essay, life essay and literary essay on the whole. Different from such other genres of literature as fiction, poetry and play, the essay in literature cannot be defined with its clear grammatical style. Georg Lukacs viewed essay as a form of art, but he dealt it differently from literature and claimed that essay had to be defined differently from the definition of literature. According to Georg Lukacs, essay is a special form that deals with souls and yearnings. Since there is no fixed modality of dealing with souls, it is necessary to establish a form that matches with souls. It is just like a greatest essayist Plato (Gy?rgy Luk?cs regarded him likely) could deal with Socrates' dialogue. Since there is no fixed modality, essay is seemingly fragmented, has no completion, does not pursue meaning but dismantles it, materializes not with creation but with quotation, and gets off the subject. Adorno regarded these characteristics of essay as the elements of 'extremely heretic art'. An appropriate form that can accommodate all the elements that can be shunned by all other genres of literature seems to be the very essay. If so, what is the essay film? The biggest difference of essay film from essay is that the latter is a letter-oriented artistic form, but the former is a video-oriented artistic form. Like essay, an essayist occupies a very important position in the essay film. Like essay, the essay film is fragmentary, has no completion, quotes miscellaneous things, gets off the subject, and tries to present not the causal narratives but the special interest that functions promptly. The essay film uses several unique film techniques, such as horizontal montage and its appropriate voice-over and inter-title insertion. The formal essence of the essay film is non-purposeful rhetoric that has no consistent forms and styles. Since it is the art of rhetoric, the essay film does not materialize organic narratives of which focus is on such conventional movie grammars as figures, characters, events, behaviors and results. Rather, it starts with certain subject materials that express the film. At this time, certain subject materials refer to special cities, special places, special spaces, special figures and special events. The main element that takes the lead in the essay film seems to be only the first-person main body's intuition (or Gy?rgy Luk?cs' 'yearning'). Only the first-person main body can take the lead in the task of materializing all the things around the subject material, from the selection of it to the impression on it. W
