(수록곡1)[Prokofiev PETER AND THE WOLF Op.67 A Musical Tale for Children][1 I am going to tell you a story about Peter and the Wolf:how Peter and his animal friends the Bird, the Cat and the Duck caught the wicked Wolf. Each of the characters in this story is represented by a different instrument of the orchestra:][2 The Bird by the flute...][3 The Duck by the oboe...][4 The Cat by the clarinet...][5 The Grandfather by the bassoon...][6 The Wolf by the horns...][7 Peter by the strings of the orchestra...][8 The gunshots by the timpani and the bass drum.][9 Early one morning Peter opened the gate and went out into the big green meadow.][10 On a branch of a big tree sat a little bird, Peter^s friend. "All is quiet, all is quiet", chirped the bird gaily.][11 Just then a duck came wadding around. She was glad that Peter hadn^t closed the gate and decided to take a nice swim in the deep pond in the meadow.][12 Seeing the duck, the little bird flew down upon the grass, settled next to her and shrugged his shoulders.][13 ^What kind of a bird are you if you can^t fly?^ said he. To this the duck replied:^What kind of a bird are you if you can^t swim?^ and dived into the pond.][14 They argued and argued, the duck swimming the pond and the little bird hopping along the shore.][15 Suddenly, something caught Peter^s attention. It was a cat crawling through the grass.][16 The cat thought:^The bird is busy arguing: I^ll just grab him!^ Stealthily she crept towards him on her velvet paws.][17 ^Look out!^ shouted Peter, and the bird immediately flew up into the tree,][18 while the duck quacked angrily at the cat,][19 from the middle of the pond.][20 The cat walked round the tree and thought:^Is it worth climbing up so high? By the time I get there the bird will have flown away^.][21 Just then Grandfather came out. He was angry because Peter had gone into the meadow. ^It is a dangerous place. If a wolf should come out of the forest, then what would you do?^][22 But Peter paid no attention to his grandfather^s words. Boys like Peter aren^t afraid of wolves!][23 But Grandfather took Peter by the hand, locked the gate and led him home.][24 No sooner had Peter gone than a big grey wolf came out of the forest.][25 In a twinkling the cat climbed up the tree.][26 The duck quacked and, in her excitement, jumped out of the pond.][27 But no matter how hard the duck tried to run, she couldn^t escape the wolf. He was getting nearer and nearer, catching up with her.][28 And then he got her, and with one gulp, swallowed her.][29 And now, this is how things stood:the cat was sitting on one branch][30 the bird on another] (수록곡2)[Disc 1 계속][31 not too close to the cat.][32 And the wolf walked round and round the tree looking at them with greedy eyes.][33 In the meantime Peter, without the slightest fear, stood behind the closed gate watching all that was going on.][34 He ran home, got a strong rope and climbed up the high stone wall.][35 One of the branches of the tree around which the wolf was walking stretched over the wall.][36. Grabbing hold of the branch,][37. Peter lightly climbed over onto the tree.][38. Perter said to the bird:^Fly down and circle around the wolf^s head, only take care that he doesn^t catch you.^][39. The bird almost touched the wolf^s head with his wings, while the wolf snapped angrily at him from this side and that.][40. How that bird teased the wolf! How that wolf wanted to catch him! But the bird was too clever and the wolf simply couldn^t do anything about it.][41. Meanwhile, Peter made a lassoo, carefully letting it down, and down, and down,][42. Caught the wolf by the tail and pulled with all his might.][43. Feeling himself caught, the wolf began to jump widly, trying to get loose.][44. But Peter tied the other end of the rope to the tree][45. And the wolf^s jumping only made the rope round his tail tighter.][46. Just then,][47. The hunters came out of the woods,][48. Following the wolf^s trail and shooting as they went.][49. But Peter, sitting in the tree, said:^Don^t shoot! Birdie and I have already caught the wolf. Now, help us take him to the zoo^.][50. Now, just imagine][51. The triumphant procession:][52. Peter at the head,][53. After him the hunters leading the wolf,][54. And winding up the procession, Grandfather and the cat. Grandfather shook his head discontentedly. ^Well, and if Peter hadn^t caught the wolf, what then?^][55. Above them flew Birdie chirping merrily. ^What fine fellows we are, Peter and I. Look what we have caught!^][56. And if one listend very carefully, they could hear the duck quacking inside the wolf, because the wolf, in his hurry, had swallowed her alive!]
